New Australian research shows most of us are missing out on the significant health benefits of eating a handful of nuts every day.
Only 2% of Australians are eating the recommended 30g each day. The mean nut intake is 4.6g per day, meaning Australians need to increase their nut consumption six-fold to meet recommendations and gain the associated health benefits.
The University of Wollongong research, commissioned by Nuts for Life, showed that eating nuts was not associated with higher weight, BMI, or waist circumference. Weight concerns are frequently cited by Australians as a reason for not eating nuts.
